I prefer to shop once and get everything I need in a single stop, especially during the busy holiday season. Stores get crowded, and multiple stops aren’t my idea of fun. That’s why I accepted the challenge to gather ingredients for a simple holiday treat from Dollar General and make this easy, crowd-pleasing recipe without running all over town.
Was I successful? Absolutely. These cute brownie bites are packed with peppermint flavor and make a perfect two-bite dessert. They’re simple to prepare and require only common ingredients — everything I needed was available at Dollar General.
These treats start with a straightforward white whole wheat brownie base, then get upgraded with a miniature peppermint pattie pressed into the top and a sprinkle of crushed candy cane. The result is a classic seasonal bite that’s rich, minty, and ideal for holiday gatherings.

Directions:
Preheat the oven to 325°F (165°C) and line a miniature brownie pan with paper liners.
In a medium saucepan, combine the butter, sugar, cocoa powder, and salt. Melt together over medium heat, stirring until smooth. Do not boil. Remove from heat and let cool briefly.
Once the mixture has cooled slightly, stir in the peppermint extract. Add the eggs one at a time, stirring thoroughly after each addition until the batter becomes glossy and thick. Fold in the white whole wheat flour until just combined.
Spoon about 1 tablespoon of batter into each paper-lined cup. Bake for about 15 minutes, until the brownies are just set but still slightly soft in the center.
Remove the pan from the oven and immediately press one miniature peppermint pattie into the top of each brownie, pushing gently so it sinks slightly. Sprinkle the tops with crushed candy canes. Let the brownies cool completely so the patties set.
