Nectarine and Raspberry with Vanilla Custard Birthday Cake
I enjoy food photography and experimenting with new techniques, so I entered a photo contest on Flickr organized by Slashfood. The challenge was simple: submit a picture of a birthday cake.
Slashfood is celebrating its first anniversary, so congratulations to the team — joyeux anniversaire!
This entry showcases a nectarine and raspberry cake layered with vanilla custard, photographed to highlight texture, color, and the fresh fruit garnish.
My submission is available on Flickr as well; the photo captures the cake’s glossy fruit topping and the creamy custard layers beneath.
I plan to share the recipe for this cake soon. It includes a light sponge, a silky vanilla custard, and a generous arrangement of sliced nectarines and raspberries. If you enjoy fresh fruit cakes with a balance of sweetness and acidity, this one should be a hit for birthdays or any celebration.
Stay tuned for the full recipe and step-by-step photos. In the meantime, wishing Slashfood a happy anniversary and thanking them for hosting a fun, food-focused contest that inspired this shoot.
