5 Pantry Staples I Stopped Buying — What I Switched To Instead

New Video: I often get asked which items I make most frequently in my Thermomix® TM6. Since I started using the Thermomix®, there are several pantry staples I no longer buy at the grocery store. Below are the top five things I prepare at home that save time, reduce waste, and let me control ingredients.

  1. Almond milk: I make my own nut milks at home, and almond milk is my favorite. It’s simple to prepare, tastes fresher than store-bought versions, and I can adjust the sweetness and thickness to suit recipes or drinking.
  2. Almond flour: The Thermomix® grinds nuts and grains quickly, so making almond flour, oat flour, or rice flour takes seconds. Freshly ground flours give better texture and flavor in baking, and I make them right before using for best results.
  3. Homemade jam: Making jam from scratch is straightforward with any fruit, a little lemon juice, and sugar. You can use either fresh or frozen fruit, and the ability to control sugar levels means healthier jars and more vibrant flavors.
  4. Vegetable stock paste: I always keep a jar of concentrated vegetable stock paste in the fridge and frozen stock portions in the freezer. It’s a versatile base for soups, stews, and sauces and adds consistent, rich flavor to weekday meals.
  5. Whipped cream: I keep a small carton of heavy whipping cream on hand because the Thermomix® whips it in under two minutes. Fresh whipped cream is perfect for topping fruit, cakes, and desserts and is far superior to many store-bought alternatives.
