Ingredients
With just a handful of pantry-friendly ingredients, this recipe is designed to save time without sacrificing flavor. It keeps the familiar mushroom-and-sour-cream profile of classic stroganoff but uses frozen meatballs and condensed soup for speed.

Key components:
- Premade meatballs. Frozen homestyle meatballs work great and save time. You can also use homemade or turkey meatballs — if using raw homemade meatballs, cook them fully before adding the sauce.
- Cream of mushroom condensed soup. Acts as the quick sauce base to streamline the recipe.
- Canned mushrooms. Ready-sliced and cooked, they speed preparation and add texture.
- Sour cream. Stirred in at the end for richness. Plain Greek yogurt is an acceptable substitute if you prefer.
- Maggi Jugo seasoning. Adds depth and color; Worcestershire or Kitchen Bouquet can be used instead.
- Salt and pepper. Optional — many store-bought meatballs and condensed soup add enough salt, so season to taste.

How To Use Frozen Meatballs

Browning frozen meatballs briefly in hot oil improves color and flavor — it prevents a flat, gray appearance and adds a pleasant seared note. If you forgot to thaw them, add the frozen meatballs to a skillet with ½ cup water, cover, and cook on low until thawed, then brown the water off and proceed. You can also defrost in the microwave if needed.
How To Serve
Wide egg noodles are the classic pairing, but any pasta, rice, mashed potatoes, or even toasted bread will work. To add color and vegetables, fold in frozen peas or serve steamed broccoli and a side salad. Finish with chopped parsley or sliced green onions for brightness.

How To Store
Store the meatballs, sauce, and noodles mixed together in an airtight container in the refrigerator for 3–4 days. Freezing is not recommended because the dairy in the sauce can separate and change texture. This recipe is easy to double for a crowd or for meal prep.

Equipment
- Large skillet
- Large pot for boiling pasta
Ingredients
- ½ pound wide egg noodles (or pasta of choice)
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
- 24 frozen meatballs, fully cooked (thawed in refrigerator if possible)
- 10.5 ounces condensed cream of mushroom soup
- 8 ounces canned mushrooms, drained
- 1 teaspoon Maggi Jugo seasoning (or Worcestershire/Kitchen Bouquet)
- ½ cup sour cream (or plain Greek yogurt)
Instructions
- Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil and cook the noodles according to package directions. Drain and keep warm.
- Heat the oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. When hot, add the thawed meatballs and sear until they develop some color, about 2–4 minutes per side. Browning improves flavor and appearance.
- Reduce heat to medium. Stir in the cream of mushroom soup, drained mushrooms, and Maggi Jugo (or substitute). Mix well and warm through, then reduce to a simmer.
- Remove the skillet from heat, then fold in the sour cream until the sauce is smooth. If it needs more seasoning, add salt and pepper to taste.
- Serve the meatball stroganoff over the cooked noodles or rice. Garnish with chopped parsley or sliced green onions if desired.
Notes
- This dish works well with any pasta, rice, mashed potatoes, or on toast.
- If using homemade raw meatballs, cook them thoroughly before adding the remaining ingredients.
- Maggi Jugo adds color and umami; if you don’t have it, use Worcestershire sauce or Kitchen Bouquet.
